a whole round of pizza with the intention of Burning it off later. however, it
may be that by increasing your calorie intake to fuel or reward your sessions
you are actually undoing all the hard work of your workout. In fact, as we
often overestimate the calories we burn through exercise, you may even be
taking in more than you have actually worked off, leading to weight gain rather

health benefits) because it helps you create that calorie deficit needs to drop
body fat. But here's the truth: Exercise alone will not help you lose weight.
For emphasis, I'll say it again. If you are relying on exercise alone to lose
weight, you are fighting an uphill battle. The best way to lose weight is to
cut back on what you eat and increase your burn through exercise—not one or the
other.</span><span lang="EN-US" style="font-size: 13pt;"><o:p></o:p></span></div>

of wheatbread? You watch what you eat, cut back on fatty foods and don’t snack
between meals, but have you considered the amount of calories you may be
drinking every day? While we all know the main calorie culprit when it comes to
our drinks is alcohol, you should also consider the calories in fruit juice,
smoothies, soft drinks and many hot drinks. Every calorie counts towards your

still not losing weight, it may be worth looking at your portion sizes. While
you may think that you’re only eating three meals a day, with the increasing
portion sizes many of us consume you could actually be eating the equivalent of
6 or more standard serving sizes each day. It is worth remembering that
although the food you’re eating may be healthy, it should still be eaten in
moderation, as eating too much of anything will cause you to gain weight.</span><span lang="EN-US" style="font-size: 13pt;"><o:p></o:p></span></div>

weight, eating too little can also make it surprisingly difficult to shed those
pounds. Your body has a natural instinct to protect itself so when it is not
given an adequate amount of food it will automatically go into starvation mode,
causing the metabolism to slow down and the body to hoard fat and calories. As
a result of this it will become much more difficult for you to lose weight.</span><span lang="EN-US" style="font-size: 13pt;"><o:p></o:p></span></div>

waistline than eating too much or too little is flitting regularly between the
two extremes. If you constantly go through a process of starving yourself one
minute and bingeing the next, you will play havoc with your metabolism and
cause your body to store more fat. As eating too little causes the metabolism
to slow down, following this period with a binge will cause your body to
quickly pile on the pounds<br />

When i tell people this is fattening or that is, it is usually followed by "Ahn ahn, so what should we then eat".<br />
plus alot of people give regular "cant food healthy food at work" excuse so i have decided to tell you what i eat, perhaps you can pick from it. I'm one of those that believe you can eat anything so long as its in the right proportion.<br />
Should you eat a slice of chocolate cream cake everyday? no...Should you starve yourself? no- I'm saying there is a balance between these two extremes and you have to find it. I Wont lie to you and say i dont do occassional Sharwama's, I do, but the key word here is OCCASSIONAL.<br />
While I wont give you a "cast in stone" food table, given the inequality in each of our situations, i will tell you what i ate last week and i'll try to keep it as realistic as possible so its easily available and CHEAP to follow. Keep in mind that this is a work-week food table, I eat breakfast and lunch at work(i Buy my lunch most times) and Dinner when i get home.<br />

I'm fortunate to work where there is always Slice bread around the corner, you can buys yours small size and keep for perhaps 2-3 days. Regular tea would also suffice for Breakfast. also note that without the jam/butter you'll be saving 100 calories, making the breakfast only 180.<br />
<br />
you are probably wondering WTH the lunch combo is, I wanted protein and vegetable minus the carbs. Alternatively, you can have this with Turkey or fish (not fried o), the Vegetable fills me up and i found out i dont need rice or swallow to support. But if you have to, you can support this with just 1/2 cup of rice or a FIST size of "swallow" if you like<br />
<br />
Fry just one egg, put in all the "putables" mixed veg(N500only for a full pack), onion, pepper, etc and your 1 egg will look like 2<br />

Lunch - I know! i cant find sensible boiled fish everywhere here jor. there are both wonderful source of protein<br />
Dinner- a serving of spagetti is 1/4 of the bag<br />

on the Average, A woman should consume 1500 calories daily to maintain your current weight, a man 2500. The diet above is about 1200 give or take which is about -300 from daily requirement and still healtyhy<br />
. look at it this way to lose 1 pound, you have to drop 3500 calories, either from exercising or meals. foll0wing this meal plan you will lose about 2pounds in 3weeks without even realising you are on a diet.<br />
<br />
if on the otherhand, this is too slow for you, look through the diet and hand pick the ones with the lowest calories for your weekly diet and also try this<br />
no jam/butter with your bread,<br />
replace full milk with skimmed milk<br />
reduce or take out completely sugar<br />
replace rice or spagetti with the wheat version<br />
no fried food<br />
At this rate your would lose atleast 1 pound a week ( which is unhealthy o! I don talk my own).<br />
<br />
my next post will be dedicated to what to do on weekends<br />
<div>
<br /></div>
Till then,<br />
Try not to eat until your belly shows the map of the food,<br />
<br />
Leave a comment ,Tell me what you think, you can also suggest healthy meals as well ;)<br />

<div class="MsoNormal">
Hi guys, sorry ive
been Mia recently, got a lot of things coming in at the same time. This week we will talk about exercises.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
I recently made up my
mind to include more exercises in my daily routine as opposed to just sneaking
it in, which includes <o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
running up the stairs
when I go to the office (5th floor),<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
walking as fast as
possible everytime I use my Legs<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
sitting up straight
all the time, Pulling in my belly and Holding for 8-10 seconds, I do this so
often, it has become a habit<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: 18.0pt; vertical-align: baseline;">
<i><span style="font-size: 9.0pt; mso-ansi-language: EN-GB; mso-bidi-font-size: 12.0pt;"><a href="http://weightloss9ja.blogspot.com/2012/10/sneak-exercise-into-our-busy-9ja-routine.html" target="_blank">Read more on how to sneak in exercise into ourbusy Nigeria Lifes</a></span></i>, <o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: 18.0pt; vertical-align: baseline;">
These little exercises, though has helped a lot,
it is suddenly not enough, I need more results!. Now im nt talking about dumbells,
or running shoes, infact Driving to the gym for me sometimes can be a lot more
work than working out itself, the cost sef fit make person jump off bridge. <o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: 18.0pt; vertical-align: baseline;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: 18.0pt; vertical-align: baseline;">
Im talking about Bodyweight exercises! Still
with the lack of motivation to go to the gym, I searched for gym alternatives
and found it. These bodyweight exercises typically do not require the use of
outside machines and equipment, meaning that they can be performed at home or
in an area without a gym, virtually anywhere and at any time, I even do them at
work. Your body becomes the tool, and the best part, you only need 15-30mins to
get the same result you would for 2hours in the gym.. Who needs a gym when
there’s the living room floor ehn? These gym people sef ?! Now I wake up in the
mornings and workout for 15mins or evenings when I get back from work<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: 18.0pt; vertical-align: baseline;">

<span style="font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif; font-size: 13.5pt;">You probably didn’t know
there was a right way and a wrong way to climb stairs, did
you? Typically you just put one foot on the step in front of you,
lean forward on your toes, and lift the other foot off the ground to advance to
the next step. WRONG! You will probably have knee
problems if you continue climbing stairs this way. Instead, stand up
straight and push off of your instep – NOT your toes – using the larger hip and
thigh muscles to lift you to the next level. As these muscles become
more accustomed to being used, they will become stronger and more supportive,
and it will be much easier for you to climb stairs. Then, skip the
elevator, and climb the stairs whenever you can.. You don’t need a
stairclimbing machine to get a workout if you learn to climb properly! So get
to climbing peeps!<o:p></o:p></span></div>

help you lose weight? <i><o:p></o:p></i></div>

<div class="MsoNormal">
Theres is a lot of debate as to which milk is better
“skimmed” or “whole”, some researchers have argued that whole milk is better
than the skimmed version based on some scientific “abracadabra”. But I do know
that skimmed milk helped a lot in the initial stage of my weightloss. In all honesty, Skimmed milk doesn’t have any
ingredient that directly contributes to weight loss but il take it over whole
milk when it comes to dieting. I swapped
all my full cream powdered milk for marvel skimmed milk and my cornflakes for kspecial
and weetabix, and I watched the number on my weight scale go down.</div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
Skimmed milk has less
calories and almost no fat as compared to full cream milk and it contains more
protein which makes sense when you are trying to cut down calories. if you consume
less calories than you should, you will lose weight, Cutting your calories
intake gradually will lead to weightloss and subtle changes like this will go
way and you won’t even know you are on a diet.</div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
The only problem I had with it was its taste, but there are
different brands with different taste, even dano now has its skimmed powered
version or you could go for the liquid fresh skimmed milk. my new favourite is the "Emborg"</div>
fresh skimmed milk in the picture, you could try out different brand and find one you are comfortable with<br />
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
More importantly is what you take with it, you can’t pour a
cup of skimmed milk into a bowl of double coated frosties and expect to lose
weight, and you also have to make subtle cereal changes. Im a kspecial fan, you
could go for whole wheat cereal if you like, just eat healthy</div>

<div class="MsoNormal">
Remember how we used to get flogged for eating the meat before finish our food, I got alot of lashes for that one, but Guess what?! I just discovered how that habit can help with weightloss, its another trick for the
weightloss trick book, and I thought I will tell you guys about it. Have you
noticed how your meat or fish or whatever garnishing you put on your plate
determines the extent to which you eat and what quantity. Most times it’s the anticipation
of the turkey and the fact that we want to save the best for the last that
keeps you eating long after we passed our filled up point. It has to become a
culture for us Nigerians to eat our meat or chicken last , we drag the “dodo” or
egg and make sure we finish it with rice and then congratulate stomach and
mouth for the effort it put into eating by eating the meat last.</div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
Since most times, in our subconscious, the end of the
garnishing means end of food, it means we can cheat our brains into believing
we have finished eating by ensuring the meat goes early and the dodo disappears
before the rice finishes. so try this for a while and see if it works, eat your meat as soon as you start to eat your food and try not to stretch it out, the idea is to ensure all the garnishing is gone before the food itself. It makes it boring.</div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
Trust me guys, this trick works!<br />
<br />
Try it and tell me what you think!</div>

<span style="font-size: 13.5pt; line-height: 115%;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="font-size: 13.5pt; line-height: 115%;">Losing an
enormous amount of weight, I have figured out ways we can cheat our brain, keep
the bad habit and still lose weight. First, I’m a drink person, and you all
know that one of the rules to lose weight is cutting out the most drinks right?.
Think of it this way, what if you don’t have to cut out the drinks? Do I have
your attention yet? What if all you had to do is be smart?<o:p></o:p></span><br />
<span style="font-size: 13.5pt; line-height: 115%;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="font-size: 13.5pt; line-height: 115%;">The typical
way we take our drink/bereavage is with the food right? One spoon, one gulp-
atleast that’s how I’ve seen most Nigerians people do it. I’m not about to tell
you not to take that coke - which is the right thing to do-for the sake of
those who haven’t mastered the act of discipline, I’m going to tell you a
trick…<o:p></o:p></span><br />
<span style="font-size: 13.5pt; line-height: 115%;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="font-size: 13.5pt; line-height: 115%;">When setting
your table of soda and food, include water to the mix, or if you want to have
tea with that bread, have a bottle of water close by. here is the trick, if you
really must take a drink with your meal, make it your goal to finish the drink
before you reach half of your plate or better still drink the tea or coke
before you even start eating and drink the water if you still want to, The
reason for this is simple. I have said, countless times, that calorie reduction
is a easy way to weight loss, by finishing your drink before your food, you
will realize that finishing that food will be a problem, there wouldn’t be that
much space left in your stomach. By this you have killed two birds with one
stone. First, you have satisfied your unhealthy hunger for a drink and you have
reduced the amount of food you’ve eaten<o:p></o:p></span><br />
<span style="font-size: 13.5pt; line-height: 115%;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="font-size: 13.5pt; line-height: 115%;">Lets do a
little maths, assuming on a regular you have a bottle of coke(150 calories)
with a plate(1 cup) of white rice and stew(about 300 calories) on the average
that’s about 450calories right? Following my trick, you would finish your coke
first(150 calories) and about half your rice(150 calories) you have just saved
150 calories, following this trend, you will definitely lose weight<o:p></o:p></span><br />
<span style="font-size: 13.5pt; line-height: 115%;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="font-size: 13.5pt; line-height: 115%;">Don’t get
too happy, in the end, you will still have to cut out the habit if you want to
lose all of that weight, you can’t trick your brain for too long, it will catch
on!. This trick will help at your early weight loss stage.<o:p></o:p></span><br />

Here in 9ja, most of our food is full of carbs hence our large and proud bellys. White bread, white rice, flour spaghetti, garri, yam e.t.c are all major culprit in belly fat. While it is almost difficult to eliminate entirely the consumption of these food type, i advice you reduce it, replace it with the healthier version and sometimes alternate. Thankfully we now have brown rice, whole grain spaghetti, whole grain bread, and wheat swallow in Nigeria<o:p></o:p></span></div>

So, to lose that layer of belly fat, you have to exercise your entire body. A simple brisk walking, or jogging or skipping will do the trick. I know it is hard to exercise in our 9ja centric environment, but I have found a way to sneak exercise in.......<a href="http://ddesola.blogspot.com/2012/10/sneak-exercise-into-our-busy-9ja-routine.html">click to find out how</a></span><br />

<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 0.0001pt 0.25in;">

<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: 0.0001pt;">
<span style="font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif; font-size: 13.5pt;"> </span><span style="font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif; font-size: 13.5pt;">It was a long time ago
the big tummies was a sign of good living, now, its just a sign of gluttony and
lack of exercise and while the first reaction to reduce belly fat is usually to
sit on a mat and start the forceful and almost impossible act of pulling yourself
up to a sitting position, hoping that in a couple of months you will be showing
your abs...wash! not gon happen. Its like trying to cure a headache with
an anti-fungal cream...</span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: 0.0001pt;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: 0.0001pt;">
<span style="font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif; font-size: 13.5pt;">Before you jump on your
mat, and ask Tolu to hold your legs please understand that Sit ups or
crunches DONT burn fat, they only define your muscles. So whats the point of
having a defined muscle tone if there will be a layer of fat covering it? you
have to first lose the fat covering your stomach muscle before you begin to see
any results for the exercise you do and especially since after we do the 200sit
ups, we celebrate with 3packs on noodles and wonder why the flat tummy is
playing hide and seek.<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: 0.0001pt;">

<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: 0.0001pt;">
<span style="font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif; font-size: 13.5pt;">flat belly is the "in"
thing and to me, it makes sense because no matter your size, your stomach size
is a major determining factor of how good you look in what you wear. if
you have a clearly defend waistline, regardless of how big you are, you are
definitely hot! Besides, i have come to realize that the size of your
stomach is directly related to the amount of folds you have on your back which
is the thin line between "fab" and "flabby". Everyone knows
this, the problem however is how to get the elusive abs.<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: 0.0001pt;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: 0.0001pt;">
<span style="font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif; font-size: 13.5pt;">while i am not condemning all abdominal exercises(sit-ups,
Crunches, reverse crunches, bicycles etc), it shouldnt be your first step,
especially if you have a large blanket of fat covering your stomach. Your first
step is to get rid of that blanket! So I am going to let you in on some secrets to getting your belly flat....<a href="http://ddesola.blogspot.com/2013/02/9-secrets-to-flat-tummy.html">click here!!!</a><o:p></o:p></span></div>

getting your weight under control, boom! It's the holidays, and food is
everywhere. I can never understand the thing with Nigerians and rice, it’s
almost like if there is no rice, the party hasn’t started. I fear that at this
rate, its only a matter of before chickens become extinct!<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: 0.0001pt;">
<span style="font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif; font-size: 13.5pt;">Oh the birthdays, house
parties, events, clubbing and do not forget, the owanbe’s, how on earth are we
supposed to watch our weight when everyone seems to be getting married in
December?<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: 0.0001pt;">
<span style="font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif; font-size: 13.5pt;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: 0.0001pt;">
<span style="font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif; font-size: 13.5pt;">Fear not guys, for I
will not sit here and tell you to hold your breath through the holidays to
avert temptation but rather to fall into temptation with dignity! Instead of
eating 10pieces of fried meat like you normally do during the holidays, try
eating 5 instead or even better 2 and walk away, at least you ate meat right?
Another tip to minimizing the weight gain during the party season is ‘never
arrive at the party hungry” eat before you leave your house, that way, you can
reduce the over-indulgence at the party buffet<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: 0.0001pt;">
<span style="font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif; font-size: 13.5pt;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: 0.0001pt;">
<span style="font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif; font-size: 13.5pt;">The biggest problem when
trying to lose holiday weight is that the holiday routine becomes “normal.” In
other words, you continue buying the ice cream and cake long after zenith bank
has removed its Christmas decoration. While it’s okay to add a little weight
during the holidays, do not forget to get it off immediately after the
holidays. Don’t be found 20days after the holidays still carrying that weight
around, if not, you’ll just keep piling on the weight. The holiday is over, let
it be over with your mouth and belly too and work on getting back to your
pre-holiday weight<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: 0.0001pt;">
<span style="font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif; font-size: 13.5pt;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: 0.0001pt;">
<span style="font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif; font-size: 13.5pt;">Did you pick up an habit
during the holidays? Drop it!, do you now have to take a bottle of coke after
every meal? Stop it!</span><span style="font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif; font-size: 13.5pt;"> </span><span style="font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif; font-size: 13.5pt;"> or do you still
have the chocolates your cousin from canada brought back home for the holidays?
Give it out! While you are at it, Cut out the late night eating too…<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: 0.0001pt;">
<span style="font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif; font-size: 13.5pt;">Stop over eating. First
cut out the junk, remember that the holiday is over, next is to try to reduce
the amount of food on your plate each time you eat, try not to eat until your
belly is swollen. Instead of sitting around feeling stuffed and uncomfortable
after a big meal, get up and walk around.<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: 0.0001pt;">
<span style="font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif; font-size: 13.5pt;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: 0.0001pt;">
<span style="font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif; font-size: 13.5pt;"> Drink lots of
water. </span><span style="font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif; font-size: 13.5pt;"> </span><span style="font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif; font-size: 13.5pt;">The importance of water
cannot be over-emphasized. Although, water is not associated with direct
weightloss, it still has an important role to play in metabolism and portion
control </span><span style="font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif; font-size: 13.5pt;"> </span><span style="font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif; font-size: 13.5pt;">Drink a full 8-oz glass
of water when you first get up in the morning, before every meal, and before
you go to bed at night. </span><span style="font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif; font-size: 13.5pt;"> </span><span style="font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif; font-size: 13.5pt;">Another little trick is
to take a drink of water between every bite of food. </span><span style="font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif; font-size: 13.5pt;"> </span><span style="font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif; font-size: 13.5pt;">All of this will help you to eat less and
improve your digestion too. Also try lacing your water with lime incase
drinking that much water get to boring. Say goodbye to the alcohol for a while
please<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: 0.0001pt;">
<span style="font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif; font-size: 13.5pt;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: 0.0001pt;">
<span style="font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif; font-size: 13.5pt;">Exercise! I know that
right after the holidays is work work work! So there is really no time to
exercise, but there are a couple of exercise you do even while you are work!:
pull your seat back and squat even while you are working or maintain a good
sitting posture, Sit up straight, and breathe, Try Pulling in your belly. Hold
for 8-10 seconds, and repeat several times. Stretch your upper body as far as
you can. Try walking around during your break time. But if you can make out
time, take advantage of this and lose that holiday weight<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: 0.0001pt;">
<span style="font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif; font-size: 13.5pt;">The problem with holiday
weight gain is that people don’t remember to lose it afterwards. The key</span><span style="font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif; font-size: 13.5pt;"> </span><span style="font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif; font-size: 13.5pt;">is to get back to your old, successful eating
routine immediately.<o:p></o:p></span></div>

<span style="font-size: 12.5pt; line-height: 19px;">2:00pm….3 more hours, 2:45pm….2hrs 15mins to go, arrrghhhh! something is wrong with the clock!<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="font-size: 12.5pt; line-height: 19px;"> It had become a daily painful habit to count down till I allow myself to eat. The wrong thought the being overweight was brought on by overeating caused me to cut down my food intake and painfully rearrange my eating habit. First, I cut out the late-night munching, then reduced my daily meals from 3 to 2 and began to take long walks for exercise. It wasn’t long before I began to get the “are you sick” comments from people, which only meant whatever I was doing was working. Taking a step further, I started to eat just once daily and my weight fell off rapidly. The best part was the worried look on my mother’s face which only reinforced my anorexic mission and reduced my food intake to naught and yes, the weight kept falling.<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="font-size: 12.5pt; line-height: 19px;">However, my joy was short lived, it got to the point I was eating almost nothing but wasn’t losing weight as fast as I should. As the days dragged on and my starving much more serious, my daily thought and nightly dreams became dominated by food and day after day, I would fight the urge to eat in the hopes of losing more weight but still, the number on the scale till did not drop fast enough. After reaching a certain weight milestone, I decided to take a break and eat a little. I gained 5pounds(10kg) within a week and had to starve myself for two months to get it off! . It wasn’t fun anymore; I was starving to death and the weight scale seemed stuck. Something was definitely wrong because the less you eat, the more you lose the weight right? Wrong….<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="font-size: 12.5pt; line-height: 19px;"> I figured out after a lot of research that I had been going about it the wrong way and had succeeded in killing my metabolism which only injured my quest to lose weight. I’ll tell you how it works, but first you have to understand the terms in simple “English”<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="font-size: 12.5pt; line-height: 19px;">Metabolism: the process by which your body converts what you eat and drink into energy<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="font-size: 12.5pt; line-height: 19px;">BMR: Basal Metabolic Rate; The number of calories it would take just to lie in bed all day.<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="font-size: 12.5pt; line-height: 19px;"> it represents the amount of energy, usually measured in calories, that your body must burn to keep itself alive while you are at rest and not digesting any food. This varies for different people and could also depend on<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="font-size: 12.5pt; line-height: 19px;">Body size and composition: Overweight people are more likely to have a faster metabolic rate — not a slower one.<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="font-size: 12.5pt; line-height: 19px;">Sex: Men burn more calories than women of the same age<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="font-size: 12.5pt; line-height: 19px;">Age: The older you get, the less calories you burn<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="font-size: 12.5pt; line-height: 19px;">It is important to understand that Even when you're at rest, your body needs energy for functions such as breathing, circulating blood and repairing cells meaning that every single thing you do — from breathing to eating to sleeping — burns calories<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="font-size: 12.5pt; line-height: 19px;">That being said, my point is the human brain's first priority is survival, meaning that if you skip meals, your brain receives the starvation signal and hence conserves whatever little food you eat, so instead of burning calories, your body is saving calories and the way it does this is by slowing down your metabolism.<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="font-size: 12.5pt; line-height: 19px;">Inotherwords, "Your body is trying to protect you from starvation. Once you start eating normally again, you have a metabolic rebound, and your body tries to hold on to every calorie you eat."<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="font-size: 12.5pt; line-height: 19px;">While starving myself, over time, my body adapted to my lifestyle and built a tolerance. Its no wonder I wasn’t losing any weight.<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="font-size: 12.5pt; line-height: 19px;">After many months of falling face down on my weight loss goals, i finally have a solution...........<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="font-size: 12.5pt; line-height: 19px;">To prevent metabolic rebound, set a realistic goal of losing weight at a rate of about one pound(0.5kg) a week. Remember that one pound of fat is equal to about 3,500 calories, and you need to cut that amount from your diet — or burn it off through exercise — to lose one pound. "That means if you cut back on 500 calories each day, you can lose that 1 pound(0.5kg) a week without shocking your metabolism,"<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="font-size: 12.5pt; line-height: 19px;"> Starving actually has the opposite effect over time............</span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-size: 12.5pt; line-height: 19px;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-size: 12.5pt; line-height: 19px;"><br /></span>

<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="font-size: 12.5pt; line-height: 115%;">where
is the time?! 24 hours a day doesn't seem like nearly enough time to fit in
work, school, and family, errands and of course, traffic!. did you know that an
average Nigerian spends almost half of his life in Traffic? how do we then make
out “me-time” talk less of workout-time?. Its almost impossible! I found out
the hard way that riding against the current of stress will only fuel
exhaustion.<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="font-size: 12.5pt; line-height: 115%;">Knowing
the importance of exercise, I started out with the determination of a bull,
deciding to do 30 minutes work out before taking my bath and dressing up for
work and another 30 minutes at nights before bed and also jogging on Saturdays
before sun comes out. Yes, it worked out the first week, and early second
before I started backsliding. The stress was getting to me. I would work all
day, only to end up sitting in 3hrs in lagos traffic, Will I do my sit ups when
I get home 10p.m? definitely not!, all I think about is how good my bed looks
under the yellow bulb. So I made a decision to shift my work outs to weekends,
who would complain about not having enough time on weekends right? Promising
myself vigorous work outs on Saturdays especially, to make up for the week, I
mapped out a plan.<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="font-size: 12.5pt; line-height: 115%;">“wake

<span style="font-size: 12.5pt; line-height: 115%;">A
2hours intense work out plan. Still burning with determination, first week went
as planned, but by the second week, it was getting uncomfortable, my bed was my
biggest foe, 6:00am! Haba! After the stress of the week? Saturdays are my
no-joke-with-sleep day. So I shifted the time an hour forward, but the still
didn't help, especially with the blinding sun and the evenings were worse!.
Subsequently, I began to look for mental excuses to stall or just not do it. So
I decided, may be if I paid for it, I will try harder, but between traffic,
work, stress and tiredness, I just couldn't find the motivation to go to the
gym.<o:p></o:p></span></div>

eyes to see that everything you eat contains calories, and everything you do
uses calories, including sleeping, breathing, and digesting food. Any physical
activity in addition to what you normally do will burn those extra calories. No
matter how small or insignificant it may seem. A simple standing, sweeping or
even tapping your feet will burn calories.</span><br />

<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="font-size: 12.5pt; line-height: 115%;">sttrp........shtwp........thhtw,
its usually the sound of my tongue or fingers against my saliva shiny plate. I
finished first! I would scream for all my cousins to hear, for the first to
finish cleaning their bowl gets reward ranging from Ice cream to chicken. My
mum always told me 'God frowns on those that waste food' which in my understanding
meant I had to finish whatever food is in my plate and stop not til my plate
was shiny. In the habit of listening to my taste buds which constantly wants
more and ignoring the loud protest of my belly and brain, I would eat until my
belly was protruding and my leg staggering and all I want to do is sleep, an
habit I horned from my boarding life where food comes only once in a while so
when it does, we eat for the present and shaky future.<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="font-size: 12.5pt; line-height: 115%;">Out
of school,I never remembered to unlearn it, so I would go about eating till the
bottom is up regardless on the type of meal.<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="font-size: 12.5pt; line-height: 115%;">My
wake up call came when Wura and I decided to take a break and eat an elaborate
meal at barcelos, ordering a burger and french fries, it was time to gossip!.
Half way through the meal and chattering, I noticed Wura going quiet with her
fork in the air as if pondering something important. "what are you
doing?" i asked, "I'm trying to decide if I'm full, i think i
am" she said, and with that she dropped the fork into a plate still half
filled with burger and fries, lunch was over.<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="font-size: 12.5pt; line-height: 115%;">A
couple of days pass bye and I'm still wondering if Wura was crazy. Truth be
told, she was slim and never had a problem with weight gain but that didnt make
it easier to understand, "for petes sake, who leaves her burger
unfinished!" where i come from, i was taught to clean my plate completely
and the reward for doing so was dessert.<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="font-size: 12.5pt; line-height: 115%;">Slowly,
i started the painful process of tearing myself from my plate before it hits
the bottom and believe me when i say it wasn't easy. Dropping my fork half way
through the meal wasnt working for me, so i tried something different. drinking
water before my food and in between mouthful thereby tiring out before i hit
spoon 10 <o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="font-size: 12.5pt; line-height: 115%;">It
takes about 20minutes for your stomach muscle to communicate with your brain
that you are full, so i also tried eating slowly and taking time to savor the
taste of each spoon. Eventually, I found it easier to slash my meals from its
preparations,reducing deliberately, my cups of rice , my packs of noodles, my slices
of yam. thereby cooking only half of what i usually eat and subsequently
removing the temptation to overeat. Also eating with my little sis helps me eat
slower and reduces the amount I take in<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="font-size: 12.5pt; line-height: 115%;">Now, i have choosen to believe that being full is
psychological, you are full when you tell yourself you are. Discipline is the
watch word.....</span><br />

would save N100 everyday, so maybe next two years i would be able to buy that
herbal tea"......I said to my little sister, while 'borrowing' my mother’s
diet tablets and my father slimming tea.<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="font-size: 12.5pt; line-height: 115%;">Fast-forward
a couple of year later, my obsession with my weight is on a different level as
being fat has taken an entirely different meaning. The world as it advances is
now being judged by the Hollywood size 0-2 standard, while my job is definitely cut out for me, my
only fear is that eventually we all will have to disappear to fit the future
standard.<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="font-size: 12.5pt; line-height: 115%;">Still
with the stubborn mentality that pill and teas are my answer, especially since
I was now able to afford my own pills, I had chosen to believe that my parents
didn’t loose any weight because of their inconsistency and unseriousness with
their dosage but it didn’t matter because, I would find the pills that do work
and adhere absolutely to its directions<o:p></o:p></span></div>

Large cycle had begun, i would fixate on a said miracle pill</span><span style="font-size: 12.5pt; line-height: 115%;"> </span><span style="font-size: 12.5pt; line-height: 115%;">and stick to it spending like a dog with a
bone all my money and time but after frequent and painstaking trips to the
toilet with no visible change in my body size I would decide it was time to
switch brands to the new miracle pill my friends have been rising hell about or
to the next big appetite suppresant on the internet, or to the
next......next.....and next. In time, I found myself jumping from pills, to
tea, herbal rems and back with no acceptable result.</span><span style="font-size: 12.5pt; line-height: 115%;"> </span><span style="font-size: 12.5pt; line-height: 115%;">Frustration was setting in, I was beginning
to question my reliance on these products. When I eventually find a drug that
works and do lose a little weight,I pile them back on before I can finish my
pack of chocolate.</span><span style="font-size: 12.5pt; line-height: 115%;"> </span><span style="font-size: 12.5pt; line-height: 115%;">Considering how
bitter or tasteless most of these herbal teas are, the pain they sometimes
bring and my frustration for lack result, I soon got tired all together.</span><br />
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="font-size: 12.5pt; line-height: 115%;">After
while and a lot of jumping around before it finally dawned on me, diet pills
are made to be complimentary and not substitutes! they will work hand in hand
with a careful lifestyle which includes your eating habits and exercise
pattern, and if it indeed works without any adjustment in your routine, it’s
only a start-stop mechanism, meaning that it will work for the duration you are
taking it by increasing your bowel movement(metabolism booster/fat blocker) or
making you fill up easily or suppressing your appetite(appetite suppressant).<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="font-size: 12.5pt; line-height: 115%;">Considering
your lifestyle hasn't changed, the question is, while these pills may help get
the weight off, can they keep it off? Ofcourse not! Because once you stop
taking these pills, whatever aid they were giving your body stops too and it’s
only a matter of time before the weight creeps back on aggressively. Also,
overtime, the body will build-up a tolerance to them and once that happens, the
pills won’t be as effective. Another questions is, are they as harmless to the
health as they claim? I sincerely doubt it; They have scientifically been
proven to increase the risk of high blood pressure, Gastrointestinal problems,
stroke, Increased heart rate and many more, also their effects are largely unproven
and come with many side effects that are not really worth the hassle. It’s my
opinion that if there was a magic pill that could make people lose weight
overnight, we would be living in a slim world and all fat related diseases will
be eradicated.<o:p></o:p></span></div>

Most of us do not find the connection between the physical appearance and God, for He has not created us in his image, beautifully and wonderfully?<br />
I've learnt to talk to him about everything no matter how trivial it may seem, that way He is my partner and the burden is shared, making it all easy, "i can do all things through Christ who strengthens me" Phil 4:13. asking him for wisdom to know things we shouldn't bother changing.<br />
The integrity, discipline and strength to take charge of our life is given to us by God, so include Him every irrelevant step of the way.......<br />

<span style="font-family: inherit;">I've recently stumbled on an amazing fact that "lifestyle" can prevent even the most probable diseases meaning even if your family has a history of diabeties, a health lifestyle can reduce the likelihood of your infection by 70%!. Your history has little to do with your physical state, rather, your present body state is as a result of what you ingest, what you give is what you get! so, to see the change you want, you have to change your lifestyle.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: inherit;">The belief in "Fat Genes" has given a lot of people a culprit to blame and an excuse to why they don't bother trying. Your weight destiny is cast in stone so why bother?,<span style="background-color: white;">dieting is difficult enough without our heredity fighting against us right?</span></span><br />
<span style="font-family: inherit;">Before we hang the culprit, I've got news!</span><br />
<span style="color: red; font-family: inherit;"><span style="background-color: white; line-height: 20.78333282470703px;">A study found that the effect of the gene on weight gain is very small, only about 2 pounds. So, for example, if you carry a fat gene and you’re 20 pounds overweight, at best you can blame about 2 of them on your parents; the other 18 pounds (about 90 percent of your extra weight) are the result of your dieting and exercise habits (or lack thereof).</span><span style="background-color: white; line-height: 20.78333282470703px;">In other words, the explains that a genetic susceptibility to obesity is modifiable by lifestyle (choices)</span></span><br />
<br />
<div class="MsoNormal">
Its my strong belief that we have a tremendous amount of control over our bodies. Even with my enormous birth weight of 4.6kg, I've managed to move from a large size 14 to a 6! this proves to me how little our genes and histories have to play. As said before, our appearance is merely a "reaction", how we look is a reflection of our lifestyle. While we have absolutely no control over our genes, we can control our lifestyle by deciding how much we eat and how much exercise we get. We control our bodies and not the other way! </div>

hello people! my name is Desola, being overweight for almost all my life inspired this blog, especially since the realization that most weight loss tips and advice at our disposal as an african country do not take into consideration our weather, routine and harsh life on the fast lane of Nigeria, making it almost imposible to adopt wholly their ideas
<br />
<br />
Have you constantly been told you are "big-boned" or "naturally fat" or that you have a "fat family history" and "bad genes"? and have been told to exercise, skip meals, eat less, or look for herbal remedy? my journey from fat to slim enabled me understand that while some of these work, some don't, some are supposed to compliment while some are just start and stop. However, understanding that your present body state is simply a 'reaction' that has little to do with genes and more to do with your daily lifestyle is the first step.<br />
<br />
<span style="background-color: white;">Next is, how to you go about changing your lifestyle comfortably? I</span>ts important to know that changing your diet doesnt mean you have to spend a truck load of money, the thought the healthy meals are expensive is false. Recently dropping all my excess weight, my spending has remained constant, though my lifestyle and eating habit somewhat varied, I still eat whatever I want!.....Trust me on this one!<br />
<br />
So I propose we do this together, that way the motivation is heightened, I'll take you through the step-by-step process that eventually worked for me because I'm certain that if it worked for me, knowing my history, it can work for anyone!<br />
